Imotski is a town behind mountain Biokovo, located near to the border of Bosnia and Hercegovina. It has two pearls of nature, Red and Blue Lake. Red Lake is one of the deepest lakes in Europe.
First time Imotski was mentioned in 10 century. It was founded on antique place called Emothe, central place of Imotski region. Old city core was made out of stone, which has made Imotski one of the most interesting places to visit.
In the past, there was a period when Imotski was a part of Ottoman Empire. Now we can see some traces of that time, especialy in cities architecture.
Imotski now has around 11,000 citizens, and most of them are Catholics. Because of its location, they are mostly in wine industries or making meat products. Over the city is spreading an old Croatian fortress called Topana with a church built in 18. century.
In latest few years, tourism in Imotski is growing rapidly. Most of the newly build houses are those with swimming pools, typical holiday homes. Big plus for city of Imotski is closeness to the sea, especially now when there is a tunnel through mountain Biokovo, which has made a drive to the sea way easier and faster.
One of the most interesting places to see is football stadium next to the Blue Lake. Many football sites and articles have pronounced this stadium as one of ten most interesting places in the world.
Old history artifacts, from ancient history up to today, can be founded in st. Francis museum collection, and is a testimony of a long and wild history of this region.
Imotski has all signs of a city next to the sea, mostly because of the climate and the architecture.
It is very interesting place to see, visit and soak up. Here you can see the life of the people not living in short distance of the sea, but also have the influence of many cultures, especially from Italian and Turkish climate.
